Program Notes

Scott Joplin’s piano rags are some of my favourite pieces to play on the piano. However, many of them are filled with consecutive octaves which put a lot of strain on my hands. I composed Riches to Rag so that I could have a piece without octaves that is in the style of ragtime. Riches to Rag combines traditional early 20th-century ragtime elements with contemporary elements.
