Program Notes

I was inspired by how combining a colour with an element of nature often sounds like the title of a folk tune, so I paired the colour “walnut” (meaning brown, not the food) with the terrain “hills.” Although brown can sometimes have an unappealing connotation, I like to think of “walnut” here as evoking a rich, chocolate-like brown; something warm, pleasant, sweet, and calming.
